| Compilation of the Concerts I've been to
|
When completed every single concert I've been to will be up on here. I'll hopefully have some details on how it went. It is mostly for me but maybe someone else out there would like to know who all I've seen. So check it out and drop me a line if you have any comments.
Pennywise w/Boy Sets Fire & Deviates- This was my first concert ever and it was actually one of better ones I've been to. The lineup was excellent with a mix up two punk bands and one hardcore band. I hadn't heard BSF at this time but Deviates and Pennywise were very cool to go see! All three bands played extremely well and the only downside was that one of the people who went with me got beer spilled on her but she still had a good time and got a little drunk too. :)
Warped Tour 2002(Boy Sets Fire, Anti-Flag)- This Warped Tour was my favorite so far. I got to see Boy Sets Fire from the very front row. It was such an awesome, passionate performance too. They debuted Release The Dogs which is still one of the better songs they've done. This solidified them as my favorite band. Anti-Flag turned out to be only ok because their equipment was out most of the show but it was great seeing them and what I could hear from them rocked. It was amazingly hot the whole day and around this time, Heather, Jay, Heather's sister, and I decided to leave. All in all, it was really awesome!
Snapcase w/Boy Sets Fire, Atreyu, & Time In Malta- This concert is a pretty important one because it was the turning point in music for me. After this concert I started listening to more hardcore and a little less punk. This line up was about as good as it gets and every single band ripped it up. Atreyu won me over in their performance because they had so much energy. Another great concert for BSF and overall a very good one for me.
CKY w/Atreyu & Memento- I went to this concert with Jason. He went more for CKY and I went only for Atreyu. This was a very neat but wild concert. Memento was a metal band that didn't fit in with either Atreyu or CKY. Nobody was feeling them and all the hardcore kids were pumped for Atreyu. They started off with Ain't Love Grand which caused a huge mosh pit. Unfortunately, Me and Jason were like right behind it and I ended up catching a couple guys and throwing them back in the pit, it was good fun. For being sick the lead singer of Atreyu sounded great. I ended up meeting him when they were done. I was buying a shirt at the merch table and he came over and I tipped his merch guy and he was like "Yeah, you rock dude". That was totally awesome. Probably one of the cooler moments I've had. This was an amazing concert even though I didn't like CKY and actually noticed many of the hardcore fans had left after like two songs. :)
Boy Sets Fire w/The Hope Conspiracy & Vaux-This was the last concert I went to with my Dad! It was a really great concert! Every band was absolutely awesome. This was the first time I had ever seen Vaux before and they totally ripped it up. The smoke and lights definitely was cool too. It was in no corny which isn't easy to pull off. Oddly enough, my Dad liked The Hope Conspiracy the best which was definitely the heaviest, most tattoo'ed band there! It was a nice surprise! One of my all time favorites.
Warped Tour 2003(Vaux, Rise Against, & The Suicide Machines-I know I say this about almost all but another great concert! I went with Eric Shaunz and his friend Melissa. I was most looking forward to seeing Vaux and Poison the Well at this concert but since it was warped there were tons of other bands to go check out. The first band I saw was Vaux who absolutely ripped it up again. There were about 25 people there to see them so I was right up front. This was awesome because they played every good song off their cd and halfway through the lead singer talked about how awesome it was that so many people came out to see them and said some of you must have seen us with Boy Sets Fire! It just so happened I had a Boy Sets Fire shirt and he started looking right at me. I just smiled and nodded it! It was very cool. After Vaux we saw Rise Against which was also very good. They're a great band to see live as well. After this we headed over to go see the Suicide Machines. At this point it started drizzling somewhat but they show went on. This was my first seeing them live which was something I had missed several times and I'm not sorry I did! They were great! You could tell they were very excited to be playing for us because they love the Midwest and they even commented how they love the hot, humid weather we have! They even played some of their older songs even though they kidded around about not being able to play them anymore. After they finished it started pouring down rain so I headed under the cover of the main stage. Basically that was the end of all the big band's concerts for the rest of the day so I tried to find Eric but could not. I started to head out after looking around for him for a very long time and then finally I tried to call a cell he had tried to call me from and the person who answered it said him and Melissa were fine so I just headed out. Later I found out the person who answered didn't have a clue what was going on but they bummed a ride to get home and everything turned out well!
Boy Sets Fire w/Social Burn, & Taproot-If there is one concert that turned out to not be that great it was this one. I knew I didn't like either of the other bands playing with Boy Sets Fire but I thought they wouldn't be too bad. Apparently, many of their fans were not very bright because all they did was give BSF trouble. After the lead singer responded to some of these(it was quite humorous how he did too) everybody started bad mouthing them like they were the bad guys for getting made fun of! The lead singer went onto say how would you feel if people tried to heckle you when you went to work and also mentioned that he was always pushed around when he in High School but he wouldn't put up with that now. It was cool to see a band do that in response to people trying to give them trouble. BSF gave another fiery performance and I was hoping they'd play a song they did about all the people who do talk trash to you but instead they played another really awesome song, "Curtain Call" which I had only seen once before. It is an amazing song that all of the BSF fans were pretty lucky to see! That made the concert for me even though it was very disheartening to see stuff like that going on at a concert.
Take Action Tour(Since By Man, Shai Hulud, 18 Visions, Further Seems Forever, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Poison The Well *whew*!)-This was quite a concert! Looking back on it now I realizied just how big it really was! Eric Shaunz(Shaunzie) came with me to this concert to see Further Seems Forever, the only emo band there. And of course to hang out with me because we don't get to hang out as often as we should! Anyway, as soon as we got in there Since By Man was playing and they were very good. This was the first time I had heard of them and I was surprised at how good they were. By the time they were done I was a fan! Shai Hulud was next and they only played their older stuff but they were also very awesome. While they look like complete jocks they sing very personal music and they put on a good show too. Around this point, Eric ran into Lee and Kayla(spelled right?) He kept picking up Lee for no reason and it was very funny. I'll probably always remember that. Anyway, next up was 18 Visions and they had TV's play stuff in between some songs and in the beginning. I thought I liked them till I saw them live. Not only are they not that good live but their videos were very strange to boot. Lots of screaming and weird kind of stuff, needless to say they didn't impress me much. Next up, was Further Seems Forever which was definitely what Eric was waiting for the whole time. They were not bad and for an emo band I must say I respect them even though they're no longer completely together as I'm writing this, they were solid back then. With Eric satisfied, next up was one of the craziest things I've ever witnessed. Dillinger Escape Plan was up next and they had heavy fog machines and everyone and I mean EVERYONE was locking arms and getting to go nuts for DEP. Eric and I got pushed back really bad. It was very weird to have that happen and not a lot of fun. But I'll always remember it. To describe DEP, is to say, take the heaviest, fastest music you've ever heard and multiple it by 100! They're exactly like that. Definitely not quite like any band I've ever heard, it was an experience. Finally the band I had been waiting to see for a while(See Warped 2003), Poison The Well was last! They were so awesome too! They started off with a bunch of their good old stuff and the whole crowd was into them which is not too common really. Unfortunately, Eric and I were so tired we wanted to just go sit down somewhere so we didn't stay for more than five or six songs but I was completely blown away by how good Poison The Well is live and I definitely plan on seeing them again real soon! This was definitely another all time best concert, if nothing else than for the awesome line up.
The Vagrant Tour(Moneen, From Autumn To Ashes, and Reggie and The Full Effect)-This was the first of three concerts Kris and I went together to. This was another fairly good one. Alkaline Trio was supposed to be on this tour but they dropped. I think Moneen was added to keep the formula the same but not completely sure. I really only went to see From Autumn To Ashes but Moneen was decent I guess. It isn't my type of music and they had some metal looking guy as their guitarist even though they're emo. Go figure! Also their singer does this annoying side to side thing with his body while he sings. Overall, Moneed did nothing to win me over. FATA was next and this being my first time I thought they were pretty good! They get lots of criticism for their live performances but I thought it was pretty decent. Not as much energy as some bands but they sound very good. Finally, Reggie was last and everyone there was excited to see them. Reggie is probably the weirdest band I've ever seen. They all have wigs they wear for one thing. They also have a guy who just dances while they play. Kind of weird too. Overall, Apocalyspe Wow with the Lead singer of FATA saying the "Let's Get It On" part was awesome!! But this was about the only highlight and not too long after that Kris and I left. Not a bad concert and it was fun hanging out with Kris and seeing a new band that I like.
Much the Same, None More Black, Against Me!, Rise Against, and Anti Flag-Before we even got to this concert we had a crazy time trying to get some food before the show! We finally found a McDonald's and got some very good food from there! Once we got there I think Much The Same was ending. I had never really heard either of the first two bands music and because there were so many bands there I just wanted to see the ones I knew I liked. Against Me! was the first band I really remember watching. Against Me! is very folksy but still punk too. Kris was totally into them but I wasn't really feeling them too much. They kept getting everyone to clap all the time which got old I thought. Funnily enough, two people on the side of the stage looked just like Bob and Mrs. Goldcamp who were both in our chemistry class. The likeness of the two was very amusing. Next up, was Rise Against who was pretty awesome to see again. Their lead singer is always pretty into it and they sing some good accessible punk/hardcore type of songs. Kris and I both enjoyed their set. Finally was A-F who I've seen once before but just barely since the whole set you couldn't hear anything. They weren't too bad but A-F isn't really anything too great live. They sound just like on cd and don't have a ton of energy. The other disheartening was how many 13 year old Hot Topic "punks" were there to see A-F. Definitely, not what I was hoping to see. All in all, A-F was a bit disapointing but it wasn't too bad of a concert. Another some good but some bad type of concert like the previous.
Silverstein, Most Precious Blood, Hopesfall, and From Autumn To Ashes-Unlike the past two concerts, this one was far from mediocre. In fact was pretty darn good. It had a very solid line up and nobody disapointed. Silverstein was the first band and dare I say they're screamo. Not too bad overall but maybe didn't quite fit in with the other three bands playing. Next up was Most Precious Blood who is an amazing band. They came out in Dew Rags which of course, Kris didn't like. I thought it was pretty funny because they weren't really serious about them. They had a cool opera-ish opening and went straight into the Great Red Shift which is an awesome song. After that they played most of the rest of their cd "Our Lady of Anihilation". They weren't too bad live but they played a little too fast and didn't seem as tight as they should have been. After MPB, was Hopesfall! I had only heard a little Hopesfall before the concert but I liked what I had heard and they didn't disapoint. Hopesfall has a great band with a very technical group of musicians and a lead singer who is very into the music which is great. I remember them playing The Bending which is an awesome song. I'd definitely go see Hopesfall again. Finally, FATA was last and plenty of people were there to see them this time. They seemed to be a little more lively even though the lead singer had a cold. They played some new songs since the last time we saw them and overall were better this time around. Overall this was an awesome concert! Definitely on par with some of the earlier ones I went to.
